Kentlerde Bugün: Volendam

Volendam, Hollanda'nın kuzeyinde Amsterdam'ın yaklaşık 20 kilometre kuzeydoğusunda IJsselmeer Gölü kıyısında konumlanıyor. Bu küçük yerleşim, geleneksel Hollanda mimarisi ile tanınan ve ziyaretçilere geleneksel bir balıkçı kasabası atmosferi sunan bir yer olarak karşımıza çıkıyor.

Geleneksel tipik Hollanda evleriyle ünlü olan Volendam'da yapılar, dar sokaklara sıralanıyor. Çatılar genellikle dik ve kiremitli olup, evlerin dış cephesinde parlak renkler, ahşap doğrama ve detaylar kullanılıyor.

Balıkçılığın bir geçim kaynağı olduğu Volendam limanında sıklıkla eski balıkçı tekneleri yer alıyor. Liman bölgesinde bulunan binalar yine tarihi dokusuyla dikkat çekiyor. Yerleşimde bir diğer geçim kaynağı olarak geleneksel Hollanda tahta ayakkabıları üreten ve ziyaretçilere geleneksel el sanatlarını deneyimleme fırsatı sunan atölyeler bulunuyor.

Volendam is located on the shores of Lake IJsselmeer, about 20 kilometres northeast of Amsterdam in the north of the Netherlands. This small settlement is known for its traditional Dutch architecture and offers visitors the atmosphere of a traditional fishing town.

In Volendam, which is famous for its traditional typical Dutch houses, the buildings are lined up on narrow streets. The roofs are usually steep and tiled, and bright colours, wooden joinery and details are used on the exterior of the houses.

Old fishing boats are often seen in the harbour of Volendam, where fishing is a source of livelihood. The buildings in the harbour area also attract attention with their historical texture. There are workshops producing traditional Dutch wooden shoes as another source of livelihood in the settlement and offering visitors the opportunity to experience traditional handicrafts.
