Westin Bonaventure Oteli, 1976


1976'da Los Angeles'ta tamamlanan ve kent dokusu içinde silindirik kütleleriyle dikkat çeken Westin Bonaventure Oteli, mimar John C. Portman Jr. tarafından tasarlanıyor. Brutalist mimarinin kent içindeki örneklerinden biri olan yapı, beş silindirik kuleden oluşuyor. Dış cephede bolca ayna kaplama kullanılması nedeniyle otel, çevresini yansıtarak şehri adeta içine çekiyor.


Fredric Jameson gibi eleştirmenler tarafından “geç kapitalizmin simgesi” olarak görülüyor. Labirent gibi iç yapısıyla kullanıcıyı yön kaybına uğratıyor, bu da postmodern toplumun karmaşıklığını yansıttığı düşüncesine kapı aralıyor.


Bonaventure Oteli, birçok film ve diziye ev sahipliği yapıyor.

Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 1976


Completed in Los Angeles in 1976, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, which draws attention with its cylindrical masses in the urban fabric, was designed by architect John C. Portman Jr. One of the examples of Brutalist architecture in the city, the building consists of five cylindrical towers. Due to the abundant use of mirror coating on the exterior, the hotel reflects its surroundings and absorbs the city into itself.


It is seen by critics such as Fredric Jameson as a “symbol of late capitalism”. With its labyrinthine interior structure, it disorients the user, which opens the door to the idea that it reflects the complexity of postmodern society.


The Bonaventure Hotel is home to many movies and TV series.
